While the diagnostic medicine reported significant success in early 21st century, the problems of precise and contemporary diagnostics still have a ranking place in the clinical medicine. To resolve this issue, the achievements in fundamental sciences have been used.
Nuclear medicine has been the very link between the natural and exact sciences.
It was the greatest achievement of the 20th century, when the method of examination via radionuclide technique was introduced in the clinical medicine, offering vast opportunities for examination of the images of individual organs, understanding their shape, size, location in organs, as well as pathological changes therein. The simplicity and, more importantly, the painlessness of diagnostics received universal recognition.
Doctor of Medicine Professor Zareh Movsessyan, the founder of X-Ray Service in Armenia and a famous pedagogue, who already in 1957 initiated the activity of establishment of X-Ray Department in the Yerevan Medical University, had a vision of such diagnostic medicine.
While currently the Department is named X-Ray Diagnostic Department, the Branch of X-Ray Diagnosis (headed by Vahagn Movsesov) is located within “Sourb Grigor Lusavorich” Medical Center.
The Head of the Radiology Branch at the X-Ray Diagnostics Department Vahagn Movsesov said that, until the last ten years, radiology had the status of a separate department. He attributes great importance to the mission of the Department of training top-ranked specialists and the need of applying new and modern methods in x-ray diagnostics.
Unfortunately, the number of people suffering breast, cervical and lung cancer is high in Armenia; hence, more importance is attached to their contemporary diagnostics and rational treatment planning. Currently, the present Head of X-Ray Department A. V. Grigoryan, together with his distinguished radiologists, appropriately keeps performing the mission of the founder at the Branch of X-Ray Service located in “Sourb Grigor Lusavorich” Medical Center.
