Main activities of the center are physical and psychosocial rehabilitation of children from 0-18 years old with musculoskeletal and neurological problems such as: impairments of Central and Peripheral nervous systems (Cerebral Palsy, Head Injury, Mielodysplasia, Brachial Plexus Birth Injury), Neuromuscular disorders, Skeletal disorders, Disturbances of Posture (Scoliosis,Kyphosis), Burn injuries, Limb deficiencies, Arthritis and etc.
4 000 children are under the center’s supervision. During a year about 600 patients are getting treatment on in-patient and out-patient bases.
The rehabilitation treatment organized by team approach. Team includes: Rehabilitation physician, Physical therapist, Occupational therapist, Nurse, Orthotist, Psychologist, Speech-language therapist, and Special educator. On necessity other specialists: Neurologist, Orthopedic doctor, Rheumatologists, Microsurgeon, Neurosurgeon and Combustiologist are involved in team-work. The team work is patient and family oriented.
The main goal of team is: the restoration of function that enables person with disability to adjust to his environment and to be a equal member of society.
Since 2002 in the Center functions “Integration Kindergarten”. When a child with disability is integrated in a classroom with normal functioning children their functioning level increases in areas of socialization, peer relationships, language, cognitive and motor skills, opposed to those placed in a special program with all children who are disabled.
During all these years the Center has been educational for different specialists who are getting undergraduate and postgraduate education in the Center.
One of the methods For the treatment of Cerebral Palsy which is used on world is
Neurodevelopment (NDT-Bobath) treatment. Some of our specialists had trainings to become trainers and they got the international (EBTA) certificate, which allows our Center to become official Center for NDT- Bobath method training.
On September 2009 was organized First Armenian Basic NDT- Bobath training course .
The specialists of the Center organizing outreach clinics in different regions of Armenia, where they are doing consults of patients as well, as educating local specialists and family members of patients with disabilities.
The Goal:
- To create the regional Rehabilitation Center which will organize the rehabilitation treatment for children with disabilities from all of Armenia as well as neighboring countries.
- To educate rehabilitation specialists
- To improve rehabilitation cervices
