Family Planning and Sexual Healthcare Center (former 2nd Maternity Hospital) is the First Obstetrical-gynecological hospital in Armenia, that was established in 1920. The building was founded on the basis of a sketch by academician A. I. Tamanyan and is considered to be an architectural monument.
At Family Planning and Sexual Healthcare Center all kinds of necessary departments are operating, where obstetrical-gynecological service is provided in aid to the public. At the center only highly qualified doctors are working. Leading specialists conduct all kinds of complex obstetrical-gynecological operations.
Family Planning and Sexual Healthcare Center is the basis of Obstetrics and Gynecology Chair of Yerevan State Medical University. The Head of the center - G. A. Beglaryan is the head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, YSMU as well. 4th, 5th and 6th year students of Yerevan State Medical University attend classes at the Center. Special attention is attached to international students. That is precisely why, several Obstetrics and Gynecology department professors are trained in the aim of delivering lectures in English.
From the very first day of establishment, obstetrical-gynecological clinic has become scientific, methodical and organizational center, that trains obstetricians and gynecologists within clinical residency.
Family Planning and Sexual Healthcare Center is a scientific center as well, where research on major issues of Obstetrics and Gynecology is carried out as well. The latest scientific infection factors of miscarriage and hiperplastic processes, precancer diseases of female sexual organs, obstetrical-gynecological aspects of female sexual organs’ inflammatory diseases, placenta studies. By the team working at the Obstetrics & Gynecology Department and Family Planning & Sexual Healthcare Center, a number of scientific articles were printed, in both local and international media, essays, methodological recommendations, educational materials were published and PhD thesises were defended. The Obstetrics & Gynecology Department assists to practical healthcare as well. The Center cooperates with clinics operating abroad, particularly in Saint-Petersburg, Moscow and USA.
Currently, construction and renovation is carried out for ameliorating the communication and for refreshing the interior design in accordance with modern requirements.
