The department of rheumatology of MC "Erebuni" was founded in 1985. Rheumatology is a part of medicine that investigates rheumatic diseases and violations of bone structure and muscular system and/or function. These are quite popular diseases including about 120 variations. Deforming osteoarthrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, gout, Bekhterev's disease, jet arthritises, systemic diseases belong to number of rheumatologic diseases (in particular, systemic lupus erythematosus, systemic vasculitis, etc.), rheumatic fever, diseases of soft circumarticular tissues, pains in the lower part of a back, etc.
At this department patients with joint disease of inflammatory and degenerative character and patients having system diseases are examined and treated.
There is an individual approach for each patient. The corresponding modern full diagnostic services promoting an early disease diagnostics is available. It concerns both laboratory services, and application of modern instrumental examination. In particular, such informative inspection as ultrasonic inspection (sonography) of joints is widely applied; as well as a modern x-ray densitometry for diagnostics of osteoporosis.
At the department there is a medical care corresponding to modern medical level that can be carried out as in the conditions of a day hospital, and, in case of need, will be organized in hospital conditions. Process of diagnosing and treatment of all patients of department of rheumatology is under control and carried out with direct participation of the head of department, Yerevan chief rheumatologist, the associate professor of narrow therapeutic specialties of YSMU, Candidate of Medical Science A.A. Haroyan .
Intra-articulate injections and punctures are carried out in case of need. At the department a specialized service of treatment of system diseases is carried out: a special chamber equipped with the corresponding devices is furnished for the patients receiving the latest medicine treatment (monoclonal antibodies) of system diseases. These injections are carried out only under supervision of a rheumatologist with the corresponding qualification and a specialized nurse.
